Ana’s first project in supply chain was automating a client’s processes on a warehouse 3PL implementation. She cut her teeth (actually fingers) hammering out swim-lane diagrams on current vs. future state, with the objective of reducing costs and error-prone activities.

Geoff Milsom

Partner

  • Geoff leads large-scale engagements and manages client relationships for Forerunners, while also serving on multiple industry association committees and boards. He and his best buddy Jesse are building this company so that their employees can buy it from them one day.
  • Started career in supply chain on a bicycle delivering sundries for a same-day e-comm business back when Amazon was still only selling textbooks.
  • He is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and at Shenandoah University, teaching courses such as Supply Chain Management, Global Trade Logistics, and Digital Transformations.
  • Studying anthropology in undergrad (with a specific focus on socio-cultural and linguistic) seemed irrelevant for his future in the business world. Now, he realizes the importance and that what makes each company different is really their people and their cultures, not their specific products and distribution strategies.

Jesse Gates

Partner

  • Jesse is a rare strategic thinker, technical expert, and business builder; those ingredients have equipped him to manage the most complex enterprise supply chain problems for F500s or solve for analytical and minute technical challenges in mid-market operations.
  • Rooted in the transportation industry, Jesse worked as a lift truck operator, P&D driver, and diesel mechanic throughout high school and college.
  • After finding his groove in supply chain at CH Robinson, Jesse decided to sharpen his technical skills by going back to school to study Information Systems, resulting in a Masters of Information Technology from the University of Maryland.
  • In the back-half of his career, he has consulted for manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and logistics service providers in several different verticals, creating new revenue opportunities and significant cost-savings initiatives, implementing programs at massive scale.

Cameron Brinks

Manager

  • Cameron has a wide range of experience (and many stories!) from leading diverse software implementations at a global scale for Fortune 500 retailers as well as for mid-sized regional manufacturers and 3PLs.
  • Cameron was one of Geoff’s first students in an undergraduate transportation class. His quick yet borderline irreverent wit juxtaposed with his thoughtful contributions in class made him a fast favorite over a decade ago.
  • Cameron's logistics career began in freight forwarding operations. He supported the full planning and execution lifecycle for shippers in various industries. They moved him to a sales role a few years later and he hated that.
  • His time in supply chain has not dulled his enjoyment of creative writing which was his first pursuit during his undergraduate studies as a journalism major. Also, Cameron spends free time working with a non-profit gym to support Baltimore youth.

Mathew Burke

Principal Consultant
  • With 20 years of experience in business processes, systems configuration, integration, and supply chain modeling, Mat excels in areas such as off-price retail, inventory positioning, and warehouse optimization.
  • He began his career at a produce and truckload broker where he solidified his passion for supply chain. Seeking new problems to solve, he transitioned to consulting, working as a solution architect and overseeing warehouse and transportation systems design and implementation.
  • Mat then went on to scratch his ‘shipper’ itch. He led ERP and WMS implementations at Castellini Company, deepening his existent produce industry knowledge. Prior to Forerunners he also led a team of industrial Engineers at Nordstrom to address retail inventory, capacity, and execution constraints.
  • Mat holds a BA in Marketing and E-Commerce, an MBA in Supply Chain Management, and professional certifications in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and PMP.

Cecelia Volker

Manager

  • Cece’s dedicated work ethic has been a key driver on many of the projects she has led, including strategic sourcing engagements, implementations, and labor management projects.
  • Like Cameron, Cece was one of Geoff's early supply chain students at the University of Maryland. Unlike Cameron, Cece sat front-and-center, never skipping class, and provided feedback on how to mentor her more effectively. Cece has since given guest lectures for Geoff’s supply-chain classes and enjoys interacting with students and sharing wisdom from her career journey.
  • After working as a planner and coordinator in international transportation for Stanley Black & Decker, Cece pivoted over to consulting where she worked on strategy and implementation projects. Cece is fiercely passionate about helping her community, so for two years left consulting and worked for a non-profit regional food distribution organization, where she oversaw their operations to ensure 500+ people received no-cost groceries daily.
  • In her down time, she continues to volunteer in her community, reads books cover-to-cover, attends yoga, urban hikes, and sharpens her Spanish fluency.

  • Ana Sofia’s Industrial Engineer mindset has been an asset to the Forerunners team and our clients, supporting facility design and consolidation, engineered labor standards, analytics, and business process improvement work.
  • Ana Sofia’s first project in supply chain was automating a client's processes on a warehouse 3PL implementation. She cut her teeth hammering out swim-lane diagrams on current vs. future state, with the objective of reducing costs and error-prone activities. Since then, she has approached problems similarly but has broadened her scope to look beyond the 4 walls as well.
  • Ana Sofia's childhood curiosity about the delivery of goods and services, coupled with her passion for optimizing processes, guided her into the supply chain industry. She values the versatility of working in different environments and enjoys integrating continuous improvement across various industries.
  • She graduated from Purdue University, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineer and had plenty of options to pursue various fields but chose to stay focused on supply chain and operations.

Jason Hubbard

Principal Consultant

  • Jason Hubbard is a specialist in transportation and logistics with about 15 years of experience working with shippers and 3PLs on topics ranging from International Trade to logistics software development. Jason graduated from Kelly School of Business with a dual major in marketing and supply chain management.
  • Jason has aided organizations in determining requirements to enable process and technology improvements in their supply chain. He has worked closely with a variety of TMS, route optimization, and Global Trade Management tools to improve the effectiveness and scalability of logistics operations and utilization of software to achieve organizational goals.
  • Most recently in his career, he worked as a product manager leading a development team to build a route optimization solution. Developing in a micro-service environment, Jason’s team leveraged the latest in Platform technology and data science to create a cost optimization algorithm. This experience has given Jason a unique edge at Forerunners to help identify and execute against innovative technology solutions for our customers.

Thomas Petersen

Consultant

  • Thomas began his career working at BNSF in operations, rising from Management Trainee to Terminal Trainmaster and eventually managing daily activity at a 450-acre terminal overseeing containers, trailers, and time critical freight.
  • Thomas loves analytical and operational projects, particularly in heavy industries. From streamlining contract management to identifying waste in crew management, from communication to equipment planning in high volume environments... he loves it all.
  • Thomas has experience in nonprofit leadership through his work with the National Capital Trolley Museum, where he supported operations, financial planning, and strategic planning as a member of the Board of Trustees.
  • Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain Management and Management from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
